When I left Mars I went to college in Washington, D.C. After a few aimless years at Georgetown I started what turned out to be, off and on, a lifelong career in the news media. Since 1971 I've worked for McGraw-Hill, Dow Jones, Time-Life and UPI, with a couple of stints as a freelancer and some time away as a teacher and, of all things, a TV producer/host. At present I'm a writer for the online service of the journal Science, covering astronomy and earth, ocean and climate sciences. Jessie and I are also dividing our time between Northern Virginia and our beloved, 110-year-old getaway house in western Maryland.
